Mapping the Islamic Sciences: Theology Part 2

Join us as we introduce the concept of the connectedness and unity of the Islamic sciences in the tradition. To understand the development of the Islamic sciences and the importance of the scholars in building the scholarship that is the foundation of our faith and practice.

The Qur’an as the Source from which all the sciences have branched. How to simplify this map of the disciplines for the beginner.

Instructor: Dr Ramon Harvey lectures in Islamic theology at Cambridge Muslim College. He undertook his postgraduate studies at SOAS, University of London, and also holds an ʿalimiyya qualification. His publications include monographs and articles in both Islamic theology and Qur’anic studies. Currently, his research focuses on kalām in early Māturīdism and on constructive Islamic theology, especially in conversation with Christian theology, analytic philosophy and phenomenology.

Programme: To help us prepare for Ramadan, we are hosting a full day workshop at the Cambridge Central Mosque with the Imams on legal rulings (fiqh) of fasting followed by discussions thereafter.

Fasting & Community Iftar: Join us in fasting (subject to 15th Shaban/Laylat an-Nisf) on the day and to break our fasts together (iftar). We ask for a £10 contribution (upon registration), however if this is difficult please let us know - CC will cover the costs. You can still join the meal if you’re not fasting!

His research has significantly influenced contemporary applications of Islamic law.

London Islamic Walking Tour

Join us to walk back in time as we take footsteps through the East End to explore pieces of Islam in London. Professional tour guide, Michael Yasseen, will lead us to visit the church where Rev. Rodwell translated the Qur'an. We will visit two mosques, one which used to be a synagogue. We will learn how our faith has made its stamp on England. And of course we must stop for a curry on Brick Lane, the unofficial curry capital!

An introductory guide that presents the basics of Islamic creed, devotional practices, and spirituality in clear and easy to understand language. Meet & Greet with Sh. Walead Mosaad

Join us to have a private conversation with Shaykh Walead Mosaad and his wife Nelly Elmenshawy.

Shaykh Walead Mosaad, an internationally recognised scholar in Islamic studies and human development. His academic and traditional training has accorded him the opportunity to work with communities worldwide as a teacher and project driver having multiple degrees across a number of universities, including Al-Azhar University as well as studying under some great luminaries of today. Sh. Walead is currently the Chair and scholar-in-residence of Sabeel Community.

Nelly Elmenshawy serves as a team member of Sabeel Community. She is an educator and children’s author and is currently pursuing a degree in Islamic Psychology.

Summer Picnic

We will pray Dhuhr together at Cambridge Central Mosque and gather at Romsey Recreation Ground  for a Cambridge Crescent Family & Friends potluck picnic. Please bring something to eat and share with others.

Please bring along some games and activities for the children and sporty adults. We hope to see many of you there, as we so look forward to getting to know each other’s families and friends. Registration not required.
